Storyline

Griffin's obnoxious. Elaine's not. He's handsome. She's fat. She can't stand him. And he loves to get under her skin.

All teeth.

That irritating mega-watt smile. She could just punch him in the face.

Just because he's good-looking he thinks he can say anything and get away with it. He was a jerk in high school and he's a jerk now.

It's too bad he lives right next door.

But when his best friend steals his girlfriend, he's shattered. And that's when Elaine sees the real Griffin beneath that pompous exterior.

And it's Elaine who's there for him through it all.

She'd be the perfect woman if only he was attracted to her.

"Lainey," he whispered. "I'm—not attracted to you." Oh God, that was the wrong way to say it. He rushed on. "I mean—I don't feel that way about you. I don't... have those kind of feelings for you." Now he was rambling. She flinched like he'd slapped her.

"Not enough anyway," he said.

"Oh." What he was saying was she was too fat to love, too ugly to love, or both. Heat pooled to her face. "I feel stupid. I feel so stupid."

All of those months they'd spent together, growing close, it wasn't what she thought it was at all...
